Politics and the Economy
At this time of the year, we usually talk about the future of our economy.
With the year almost at a close, what could happen to income, employment and prices next year?
2004 being an election year, questions of this nature are bound to be mixed with political choices, thus: What will be the economic policies of the next President?
We can blend the two questions: What will the next President do to increase income and employment and to keep prices stable?
A lot of people are concerned that the issue on the economy is so complex and serious, the next President may not know how to deal with them properly.
There are also a lot of people who feel that the improvement of the economy depends on credible leadership. Still others believe no economic progress is going to happen if criminality is rising and investor confidence is declining.
There are a whole lot of arguments that tend to confuse us as we think more and more about them.
What is clear, however, is that the economic situation affects the political situation and vice versa.
We must deal with both.
The future of this country depends on how we are able to mix and match both concerns.
In fashion, we wear the clothes that match the season.
Just like fashion – our choice will depend on what we think is best for the situation we are in.
Merry Christmas and Happy New year!
